*New Knee Implant Surgery Procedure Performed by Edmund Landry, M.D., Orthopaedic Surgeon

A new type of knee replacement is receiving attention at Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center called “custom” knee replacement. Edmund Landry, M.D., explained that the custom knee replacement requires an MRI of the knee to be obtained to precisely measure bone size and alignment.

From the MRI specially designed cutting guides are made for the patient. This information guides the surgeon in removing just the precise amount of bone at specific angles to fit the knee replacement implant. Dr. Landry explained, “By doing this custom cut to fit the knee implant, the surgeon will remove less bone than normal and result in less problems within the knee given the precise alignment.”

Dr. Landry also stated “this type of procedure is designed to work with you and your body to promote easier motion making life simpler when it comes to walking, bending and can also offer more comfort during recovery time.”

Dr. Landry and his staff at Kennett Orthopaedics empower patients and are dedicated to helping restore active lifestyles. Dr. Landry is trained to diagnose and treat injury, deformity and disease that interrupt the musculoskeletal system. He is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery receiving his medical training and education at Louisiana State University. He was in the U.S. Army from 1977 to 1984. He began his private practice in New Orleans in 1984 later joining the staff of Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center in February 2000.
